CIEH Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

Course Overview

 

This health and safety course is accredited to the Charted Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). It provides delegates with the foundations of health and safety in the workplace and can form part of an induction programme, Successful delegates are provided with a CIEH Level 1 Certificate and leave the course with a copy of the booklet “Beginners Guide to Health and Safety”.

 

Who Should Attend

 

This qualification will benefit those who are entering the workplace for the first time or anyone who wishes to gain an awareness of key health and safety issues and the part that they should play in keeping themselves and others free from harm at work.

 

Course Content

 

 

·      State what is meant by ‘health and safety ‘ at work

·      Describe the terms ‘hazard’, ‘risk’ and ‘harm’

·      Identify the main types of accidents and ill-health caused by poor   standards of health and safety

·      State the main legal responsibilities of employers and employees with respect to the  health safety and welfare

·      State the importance of following instructions, safety rules and safe procedures at work

·      To understand the scope of hazards and risks in the workplaces with reference to; slips, trips and falls; working at height; manual handling; hazardous substances; machinery and vehicles; electricity; fire and stress

·      To understand the range of workplace conditions that can affect health  and safety

·      Identity the benefits of good housekeeping

·      Identity types of welfare provision in the workplace

·      Identify the different class of safety sign used in the workplace

·      To understand the requirements relating to reporting, first-aid and personal protection

·      Explain the need for workers to report injuries, ill health, dangerous events and unsafe conditions promptly to the employer

·      Identify the purpose of first-aid provision in the workplace

·      Identify the types of personal protective equipment that may be provided in the workplace and the hazards against which each type offers protection

 

Course Objectives

Successful completion of the training programme and assessment will enable delegates to understand:

 

·       The importance of health and safety in the workplace

·       The scope of hazards and risks in the workplace

·       A range of workplace conditions that can affect health and safety

·       The requirements relating to reporting, first aid, personal protection and personal hygiene
